Community

Life in a REACH home reaches far beyond the front door. Residents are part of a wider community of athletes, volunteers, families, and neighbors who show up for sports seasons, social events, enrichment opportunities, and recognition nights that make independent living feel fuller and more connected.

These activities do not replace housing. They build on it, giving residents chances to move, play, celebrate, and spend time with people who see them as teammates, friends, and valued members of our communities.

Community Recreation

REACH supports adults with developmental disabilities who take part in local recreation programs and Special Olympics. Team T-RADD, which draws from Recreation for Adults with Developmental Disabilities and the Tri-Valley Rockets, brings athletes together for sports like basketball, softball, floor hockey, track, and bocce.

For some athletes, program fees can be a real barrier. REACH steps in with scholarships so adults with very limited income can still play. Those scholarships turn into game days, practices, and team experiences that help residents build confidence, improve fitness, and feel like part of something bigger than themselves.

Celebrations and Recognition

Achievements deserve more than quiet acknowledgement. REACH helps host and support events where athletes, residents, and families gather to mark milestones, such as the end of a sports season or key housing accomplishments. Awards nights, social gatherings, and community recognition moments give people time to cheer for one another and share what they have gained.

These events also give families and supporters a better look at how residents are doing in their homes and in the community. They hear stories of new friendships, see the pride on athletes’ faces when medals are handed out, and get a clearer sense of how housing and programs work together.

Social Connection and Enrichment

REACH sponsors and supports enrichment opportunities that bring residents and other adults with I/DD together for social activities and recreation that fit their interests. Activities can range from simple community outings to more organized gatherings tied to local partners. The common thread is that residents have chances to meet, talk, and relax with peers as well as people in their own neighborhoods. Over time, these moments help break down loneliness and reinforce the sense of belonging in the greater Tri-Valley community.

Frequently Asked Questions

REACH supports programs that help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities build connection, confidence, and community. That includes recreation, enrichment opportunities, social events, and support for Team T-RADD athletes and participants.

How do programs support independent living?

Independent living is about more than having a place to live. REACH programs help residents build friendships, stay active, join community life, and feel more connected in ways that support confidence and everyday well-being.

What is Team T-RADD?

Team T-RADD is the name used in REACH outreach for the local recreation and sports program that includes Special Olympics teams and activities for adults with developmental disabilities. Public materials note sports like floor hockey, softball, basketball, track and field, bocce, and golf.

Does REACH provide scholarships for sports and recreation?

Yes. REACH provides scholarships for adults who are low income so they can take part in sports and recreation opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach.

Does REACH only focus on housing?

Housing is central to the mission, but REACH also supports programs and events that help adults with I/DD feel connected and included in the wider community. While affordable housing is a priority, community activities remain an important part of quality of life.

What kinds of community events does REACH support?

REACH supports social events, athletic celebration events, and recognition gatherings for the I/DD community. These events create space for people to connect, celebrate, and feel part of something larger than their day-to-day routine.

Who can participate in REACH community programs?

REACH serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities across the Tri-Valley community, not only people who live in REACH housing. Some events and opportunities may vary based on the program, but the broader goal is to support the wider I/DD community.

Why does REACH invest in community programs?

REACH’s mission is rooted in independence, dignity, and inclusion. Programs and community activities help make independent living feel fuller and more sustainable by giving adults with I/DD chances to build relationships, stay engaged, and enjoy meaningful experiences.
