About Us

Tri-Valley REACH is a local 501c3 nonprofit that has spent many years building very affordable homes for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in the Tri-Valley. The goal has always been simple: help people live in regular neighborhoods with rent that reflects their income and support that respects their independence.
Instead of focusing only on programs or services, REACH puts housing at the center. Once someone has a stable home that fits their needs, it becomes easier to build daily living skills, connect with neighbors, and take part in local life.

Our Mission

Our Mission

Our mission is to create inclusive communities where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities can live independently in truly affordable homes. We work with families, partner organizations, and the wider Tri-Valley community to open doors to housing, enrichment, and social connection that keeps people rooted in the place they call home.

Housing isn’t treated as a basic box to be checked. It is viewed as the starting point for independence, confidence, and long term stability. When rent matches income and homes are tailored for accessibility, residents can focus on growing their independence and thriving in the community, knowing someone is helping keep the lights on and helping them succeed.

Our Values

Our Values

At REACH, “People First” is not a slogan. It shows up in the way we listen to residents, react when issues arise in a household, and plan new properties. Independence shapes our decisions about housing and support, so residents have room to make choices and learn from them without feeling alone or unsafe.

Inclusion matters as well. Homes are placed inside existing neighborhoods where residents can walk to the mailbox, say hello to neighbors, and take part in everyday community rhythms. That steady presence helps shift how people see adults with I/DD and builds real relationships.

Our Story

Established as a nonprofit in 1991, Tri-Valley REACH was founded by a group of dedicated family members of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who shared a common goal: ensuring their loved ones could continue living in the community they called home. Their vision was to create safe, high-quality housing opportunities where residents could build independent living skills, grow in confidence, and foster relationships.

Living locally is especially important for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Remaining close to family, friends, trusted caregivers, and familiar surroundings provides stability, strengthens support networks, and promotes greater independence, inclusion, and overall quality of life.

WHAT'S AHEAD

Today, Tri-Valley REACH continues to honor this vision by providing very affordable housing, maintaining several homes throughout the Tri-Valley region, and offering enrichment opportunities that empower adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live independently.
